This is our most popular Chevrolet distributor and is engineered for performance from the inside out! The 0.500" steel shaft receives a Tuftride coating for friction reduction and resistance to corrosion. A combination of a sealed ball bearing and an extra long sintered bushing provide smooth operation at high rpm.
The MSD high output magnetic pickup produces a trigger signal as the paddles of a precision manufactured reluctor spin by. This pickup is also maintenance-free with no adjustments ever necessary!
Above the pickup is the mechanical advance assembly. Different springs and bushings are supplied so you can dial-in an advance curve quickly and easily. The assembly is made up of chrome moly weights that slide on nylon bushings. The weight pins are staked and tig welded for incredible strength.
The housing is CNC machined from 6061-T6 aluminum and features an oil lube tract to direct oil to the cam and distributor gears. For modified blocks, there are two o-ring grooves that will keep the oil from leaking down from the oil gallery.
The distributor comes complete with a high quality cap and MSD's Racing Rotor. There is no vacuum advance and an MSD Ignition Control must be used.

Same as the PN 85551 plus features an adjustable slip collar. This allows you adjust the distributor to the correct height to accept engines with custom intakes or decked heads and blocks.

If you are looking to upgrade your stock coil, or want to compliment the performance of your MSD Blaster Ignition, MSD 5, 6 or 7, the Blaster Coil line is the right choice. All of the Blaster Coils are designed for improved spark output!
Special 100:1 windings are used to provide maximum build-up of voltage! These windings are held secure and kept cool in an oil filled metal canister. The tower assembly is molded of durable alkyd material due to its high dielectric characteristics while wide spaced brass primary terminals prevent the possibility of spark.

 MSD IGNITION and LATE MODEL APPLICATIONS

The 8202 Blaster Coils can be used in stock applications, but do not include a ballast resistor. When you are using an MSD Ignition Control, the Ignition is responsible for delivering the voltage to the coil so a ballast is not necessary.

For circle track, off road and other severe duty racing applications, this is the coil! The windings of the High Vibration Coil are completely encased in a premium epoxy making it impossible for vibration to affect the windings. This assembly is housed in a unique alkyd molded shell which provides high dielectric characteristics plus a very durable shell. Brass primary terminals ensure full voltage delivery and are spaced far apart to eliminate the chance of spark arc-over. The High Vibration Coil can be mounted in any position and can be used with a standard canister coil mount.

Chrome Blaster 2 Coil

With a 0.8 ohm ballast resistor and a terminal and boot to fit most applications. The ballast resistor must be used with stock Points Ignition and Mallory Unilite applications.
NOTE: These are the same coils as the other Blaster Coils, except they are supplied with a ballast resistor.

Blaster SS Coil

The MSD line of Blaster Coils is known for great performance from the street to the circle tracks. Following in that performance line, the new Blaster SS Coil is ready to leave its mark. The Blaster SS is an E-core style coil, which is a very efficient design when it comes to producing high voltage and spark energy. The windings produce 300mA and can handle up to 48,000 volts when used with an MSD 6 Series Ignition Control. The windings are held secure in a Dupont® Ryniteô injection molded shell and are then encased in an epoxy compound for protection against vibration and water. The primary terminals are located at opposite ends of the tall spark tower so there is no chance of arcing especially with the high dielectric characteristics of the Rynite housing. The Coil is compact enough to fit in tight areas and is supplied with vibrations mounts.

The Automatic Coil Selector features three posts; one for each coil and the other to go to the distributor cap. This way, when a driver switches ignitions, the Coil Selector automatically switches to the backup coil. To use the Coil Selector, two ignitions, two coils and a single-pole, double-throw switch are required.

If you have your coil mounted in the passenger compartment, you need the Firewall Feed-Thru. The Feed-Thru offers a half inch of spark isolation through a rynite mold to ensure that the spark gets to the distributor cap instead of jumping to ground at the firewall. A brass rod is surrounded by an injection molded rynite and nylon housing to form a spark isolating path through the firewall. Spark plug style terminals are used for strong Coil Wire connections. Mounts in a 1" diameter hole with supplied hardware.

Chrome Coil Bracket

To mount your new Blaster Coil, MSD offers a chrome coil bracket. The Bracket is designed to mount to a fender well or firewall. It features a bolt and nut to secure the coil for a durable and good looking mount.

Coil Wire Retainer

The Retainer is molded from Rynite and features a "hood" that pushes down on the coil wire boot and secures it in place. Fits all Blaster Coils (except High Vibration and the Blaster 3) and will work with most other aftermarket canister coils.

The Blaster 3 Coil features an extra tall tower design to improve the coil wire attachment and spark isolation.

Pro Power HVC Coil

With the popularity of high powered street/strip cars, there has been a need for a coil that could fill the needs of these double duty cars. By combining the race proven design of the MSD race-only Pro Power Coil with the technology behind our new HVC Coils, we've filled that requirement. The Pro Power HVC Coil is designed for drag racing applications with an MSD 7 Series Ignition Control. With a combination of extremely low primary resistance and the efficient design of an E-Core coil, the HVC produces high voltage without compromising the current output. Due to this unique design, the Pro Power HVC can be used in long duration racing events.

Blaster HVC Coil

The Blaster HVC Coil is right at home on the street or strip. The Coil is designed to produce maximum power with an MSD 6 Series Ignition Control. Special windings and material were chosen by MSD engineers to efficiently produce High Voltage and Current. Low primary resistance allows the coil to take in all of the MSD's energy and instantly step up the voltage combined with a high amount of current. This combination delivers a powerful spark to the plug for complete combustion in the cylinder. The coil windings are encased in epoxy and held secure in a heavy duty aluminum housing. The tall secondary tower accepts an HEI style plug terminal and boot and heavy duty vibration mounts are supplied for a secure mount.
